The Furukawa Art Museum is private art collection by the late Saburo Furukawa, which opened in 1991.
The museum holds a number of original works by various renowned Japanese artists and holds special exhibitions throughout the year.
While the Furukawa museum is a modern large grey building, the near by Saburo Memorial Museum is quite the opposite.
A very beautiful example of traditional Japanese architecture, this area is small but highly detailed.
Unfortunately both locations do not allow photography of the works on display. But Saburo Memorial Museums garden and building is the best work on display here and it’s free to have a look around outside.
To reach these locations go to Ikeshita on the Higashiyama subway line and walk around 5 minutes.
